The Holidays May be Over, but South Street Self Storage Continues to Give

Many people cap off the end of the year by participating in some sort of charitable giving, but at South Street Self Storage in Long Beach, California, the giving continues year-round!

Boxes of rice and cans of green beans may seem out of place in a self storage facility, but Antonio Tinajero and his team of self storage professionals always seem to have something going on to support the community. As you make your monthly storage payment, get to know Antonio and consider supporting the cause if it speaks to you.

Antonio has a huge heart. He says partnering with the local non-for-profit Dare to Care for the Homeless has been a great way to help disadvantaged communities in Long Beach, “My personal reason to start a food drive is to help be part of the solution in Long Beach. Long Beach is a low-income community. I frequently see homeless people lounging in the streets, digging through trash cans looking for food or cans to recycle and purchase food.”

Dare to Care For The Homeless does just that. They dare to step into the lives of those who have great needs.

The team at South Street Self Storage also supports Lydia’s House, a shelter for women and children who have been victims of domestic abuse. Antonio has set a number of goals for helping this organization in 2019. South Street Self Storage knows some people need support for a short time before getting back on their feet, while others struggle year after year with homelessness and hunger. Being able to provide food to those who need it each month is something that is only possible because of generous donations from the South Street Self Storage community. While all of our self storage facilities find ways to give back to the communities where they do business, few do so year-round, but Antonio sees the need in Long Beach, “Being displaced is hard enough to deal with. Food should not be part of their daily struggles.”

Can you be part of the giving? Sure! Open your pantry and look for dry goods such as cereals, beans, rice, protein bars, salt, turmeric, pasta, and nuts. Canned goods such as spaghetti sauce, cream of mushroom soup, and tuna are also welcomed. Antonio said he often sees donations of coffee, olive oil, vinegar, and bottled water. For those who would rather have someone else take care of the shopping, donations of grocery store gift cards are a great option!

“The Long Beach community always surprises me for their ongoing generosity to want to better our community!” Antonio said.

Antonio and the rest of the team realize just how much good is being done because Sandra, Antonio’s wife, and a former member of the South Street Self Storage team, sits on the advisory board for the Dare to Care For The Homeless.

“I would like to say thank you to all the customers at South Street Storage who donate food in striving to help Long Beach,” said Antonio.

For 10 years now, Dare to Care for the Homeless has provided hygiene products, food, and clothing to those in greatest need. If you would like to learn more about how you can help the homeless in Long Beach in 2019, feel free to stop in at South Street Self Storage today!
