Car, RV and Boat Storage in Calexico, CA: How to Pick the Right Parking Spot

If the driveway is full, the HOA isn’t happy about the RV, or the boat just doesn’t fit in the garage, you’re not alone. Plenty of Calexico and Imperial Valley households run out of room for vehicles before they run out of room for everything else. Here’s how to choose a spot that works for what you’re parking.

Why Vehicle Storage Makes Sense in Calexico

Calexico is a busy border town, and a lot of households here own more than one vehicle, a trailer, an RV or a boat. Add the Imperial Valley heat and the dust, and leaving a vehicle in the street or on a driveway for months starts to look like a bad idea.

A dedicated parking space gives you back your driveway and keeps a vehicle you don’t use every day in one predictable place.

Outdoor vs Covered Parking

The first decision is whether you want your vehicle out in the open or under a cover.

Outdoor parking is the simplest option. It works well for everyday vehicles, trailers and equipment, and it’s usually the best fit for taller RVs and boats that need clearance.

Covered parking adds shade. In a place where summer sun is hard on paint, tires and interiors, that can be worth it for a car, a classic or an RV you plan to keep for years.

At StaxUP Storage - Calexico on CA-98, we have a large fenced parking area with outdoor spaces that start at 20 feet. At StaxUP Storage - Portico on Enterprise Blvd, we also offer covered parking spaces. You can see both on our Calexico storage page.

How to Size a Parking Space

Before you book, measure the full length of your vehicle, including the hitch, trailer tongue or ladder if you have one. Then add a little room so you can pull in and out without a ten point turn.

Write down the height too, especially for RVs, so you know whether covered parking works. If you’re parking a boat on a trailer, measure the whole rig, not just the boat.

If you’re not sure, call the facility before you reserve. A quick conversation is easier than rearranging a space on move in day.

Drive-Up Units for Gear and Equipment

Many vehicle owners also need a little extra room for what goes with the vehicle: camping gear, tie downs, covers, tools and tires. A drive-up unit lets you park right at the door and load straight in.

At the CA-98 location, drive-up units run from 5' x 5' up to 30' x 25', so you can find a space for a trailer, a work truck’s tools or a full garage cleanout. Not sure what size you need? Our storage unit size guide shows what fits in each.

What to Bring When You Rent

For vehicles, bring a valid photo ID and a payment method. You’ll also want your registration and proof of insurance on hand, since those may be required for vehicle, boat, trailer or RV parking.

Rentals are month to month, so you aren’t locked into a long contract. If your plans change, you can adjust.

Boats and Trailers

Boat owners in the Imperial Valley often drive a ways to find water, so a boat sitting at home for weeks at a time is common. Parking it at the facility instead of the side of the house keeps the driveway clear and gives the boat a steady spot to come back to.

Moving? Don’t Forget the Truck

If the reason you need space is a move, we also offer U-Haul moving truck rentals, so you can pick up the truck and drop off your vehicle in one trip.
