Here at StaxUP Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our renters is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with Ana Padilla, who is celebrating her 13-year anniversary with StaxUP Storage.
You can meet Ana at StaxUP Storage in Chula Vista, California.
Peter: Hey, Ana! Thank for taking the time to talk with me. Congratulations on your anniversary! How many years have you been with StaxUP Storage?
Ana: Well, they say 13, it doesn’t seem that long though.
Peter: Was this your first job in self storage or had you been in the industry before this?
Ana: No, this is it.
Peter: What kind of work had you done before you joined StaxUP?
Ana: I actually worked at Seaworld and I also worked at the convention center for 11 years. I’ve always worked around people so I’m a people person.
Peter: What made you join StaxUP? Was there something about self storage or how did you hear about the position?
Ana: I was working for Strategic Property Management doing maintenance in an apartment complex with my sister. My sister worked for the company as well as the Apartment Manager, so I worked helping her turn over apartments. I did some cleaning, some painting, and that's where I started.
Peter: That’s cool. How did you make the switch from being on the apartment side to being a manager? Did Julie Merry, StaxUP Storage Brand Vice President, have a position open and approach you?
Ana: Julie, yes. Julie had a position open for an Assistant Manager at Ballpark and I said “Okay, I’ll give it a try”, and I’ve been here ever since!
Peter: Right on! So you were at Ballpark and now you’re at Chula Vista. Have you been at any other facilities in between?
Ana: No, but I was usually the one who got pulled to go help out a little bit at other facilities as well.
“It has been a great joy to work with Ana. We are always laughing and having a great time. We work well together and it's definitely felt on her days off. Ana is the kind of Team Member that takes initiative. She is not afraid to get dirty and usually is the first to take on a cleaning task! She has shown a great deal of growth in taking on tasks. Ana is a great Team Member and friend!"
Gary Garcia, Manager - StaxUP Storage in Chula Vista
Peter: We call those the glue people where I’m from, because they hold everything together. They make it all work. So you’ve worked with a lot of people at StaxUP then since you’ve been at some different facilities?
Peter: That’s awesome. Which one, since you’ve worked at a couple of the bigger ones, like Ballpark being huge, right? Which one has been your favorite?
Ana: I’m gonna say Chula Vista. I’m gonna say here. I’ve only been here three years but it has been great.
Peter: What about Chula Vista makes it great?
Ana: I guess it’s the people. It’s our Manager here. It’s been great working here for me. I like it! Don’t get me wrong, Ballpark was great too. Ballpark was great too, but I like it here better.
Peter: Yeah, they always seem to have a good team at Ballpark. Did you work with Adam at Ballpark?
Ana: Yes, I did! He was my Manager.
Peter: Yeah, I love Adam. He’s a great guy.
Ana: Yeah, he is.
Peter: With self storage, you work with a lot of different type of people, all types of people need self storage, right?
Ana: That’s correct.
“Ana is a tough lady. She isn’t afraid to get dirty, take on cleaning projects, and drive the forklift. Ana is also a great Team Member. She doesn’t hesitate to cover for others or to travel to other facilities. She works well with the team and has great customer service. I enjoy working with Ana, and want to thank her for her hard work and dedication."
Monique Quintana-Padilla, StaxUP Storage District Manager
Peter: So are there any, I know thirteen years is a long time, but are there any people over the years that have stuck out in your memory or left an impression on you?
Ana: You mean the customer?
Peter: Yeah, the renters. Have you met any renters that have left an impression on you over the last 13 years? Maybe anybody who had an interesting story or somebody that you helped out or somebody that was a long term renter?
Ana: Yeah, I have an interesting story. I met a couple named Jennifer and John. We still keep in touch. Jennifer was pregnant and after she had her baby, I guess CPS got involved, and they were going to take her little boy. I took him in. He’s my baby now and I met him at storage at Ballpark. Something crazy, but it’s true and I think we changed him, I don’t know how to say it.
Peter: Wait, that’s really cool. Yeah, wow! What’s his name?
Ana: Anthony, Anthony is my little baby and he’s already going to be six in February. I’ve had him since he was one. Exactly when he was one year old, I took him in.
Peter: Wow, that’s amazing!
Ana: And it has to do with storage. I met them at storage!
Peter: Wow, that has to be an incredible story. I totally understand if that’s not the kind of thing you can go into detail on. Wow, I don’t know what to expect when I ask that question but that is one of the most unique answers I’ve ever gotten.
Ana: Crazy, huh? It’s beautiful!
Peter: Yeah, thank you for sharing that with me.
Ana: And I still keep in touch with them. They’re doing great now themselves. They see Anthony once a month. I let them see Anthony still so he can keep in touch with them. So, yeah.
Peter: Wow! I mean that’s the best thing I’m ever gonna hear that someone has gotten from storage. Really cool! I think that’s a really good transition into what do you do when you’re not at Chula Vista, like do you have any hobbies or, what takes up your time outside of the office?
Ana: My time is with my grandkids and Anthony. I spend a lot of time with them. I love family events! I love cooking! We do a lot of outside stuff. We have some horses and we take our horses out and we just have a good time.
Peter: Oh man, so you guys like to get outside and do outdoorsy things as a family?
Ana: Yes, yes that’s what I love to do.
Peter: That’s awesome. Do you have a big family then? Do they all live basically in the same area, like close enough to get together?
Ana: Yes, we’re close by.
