How Keyless Entry Works at StaxUP Storage
The process is straightforward from day one:
Rent Your Unit
When you lease a keyless entry enabled unit, or rent at a facility with NOKĒ gate access, your account is linked to the lock during setup.
Download the NOKĒ App
Available on iPhone and Android. A setup wizard walks you through pairing your phone the first time.
Walk Up and Unlock
Open the app, tap the unit or gate you need, and it opens via Bluetooth. No internet connection is required at the unit. The lock and your phone communicate locally.
Every Access Is Logged
The app records every open and close automatically.

About NOKĒ Smart Entry Technology
NOKĒ (pronounced "no-key") is a smart-lock platform made by Janus International and built specifically for self storage, not adapted from a smart-home product. It's one of the most widely deployed access systems in the U.S. self storage industry.
A few things worth knowing:
- Locks are Bluetooth-first, so they work even when cell signal is weak.
- Every access event is logged automatically.
- The hardware is designed for outdoor use, including weather exposure, temperature swings, and daily facility traffic.
You don't need to know any of this to use it. The app handles everything. But it's part of why the experience tends to be reliable.
How Keyless Entry Shows Up Across Our Facilities
Not every StaxUP location has the same configuration. You may find:
Keyless Gate Access
The main entrance opens through the NOKĒ app. Individual units may still use traditional padlocks.
Keyless Unit Access
Your unit has a NOKĒ smart lock. Gate access may be traditional or app based.
Full Keyless Entry
Both gate and unit access are managed through the NOKĒ app.
Traditional Access
Some facilities still use conventional locks throughout.
Because configurations vary and rollout is ongoing, the only reliable way to know what a specific location offers is to ask. Every facility page has a phone number, or stop in when the office is open and we'll show you how it works.
